This is us, first thing this morning. All that love in one tiny part of the great big bed! Sam is missing, as he had exciting New Year's Eve party plans. But I think the photo helps make clear what I hope for in 2008...a great love for my family. I'd like to truly appreciate being a mom more. It's hard for me sometimes. I get really caught up in, "Did you do your homework? Have you cleaned your room? Stop fighting with your sister! Take your shower! Where are your dirty clothes?" I need to get caught up in the tiny moments of motherhood that make it worth doing (times three)!
My "word" for the year is going to be peace. I have loved wearing the "calm" charm around my neck during the past year. It was a nice, physical reminder of what I was hoping to accomplish. I don't think I'm much calmer than I was a year ago, but that's not for lack of trying. :-) I'm hoping to get a "peace" charm for 2008. Peace with my family. Peace with God. Peace in my heart. Peace with how I parent. And sometimes, the good-old-fashioned peace of silence (something I treasure more and more each day). If you're not into resolutions per se, but enjoy the energy that comes from a fresh start, you might join me in picking a word for 2008 that defines what you hope for the coming year.
I'm also going to do a thankful journal this year. Nothing fancy or complicated. Just one little thing each day that I'm thankful for. I've created the "body" of the book already (you can see pictures of it on the right side of this blog) out of stuff I had lying around the house. I totally stole this idea from a few "famous" scrappers, but I'm glad I did. The cool thing is that by using stuff you already have, everyone's book will look 100% different from anyone else's. I love it. I'm doing 52 pages, one for each week. Keeps it simple. Some pages are big (6x6) and some are down right tiny (more like 2x3), but that's what keeps it interesting and easy. Some weeks, all I need to write is a single word each day! I plan to embellish it as I go along...that allows me to have the basics "done" but gives me the opportunity to do a little something creative each week. Here's the cover and the first page. ( And again, if you want to see more, just click on the picture to the right.)
Here's to 2008. May it bring you 365 things to be thankful for!
